Social media seems to be everywhere these days. It has become a major factor in the world, especially during these pandemic days. For many of us, it is how we keep up with what our friends are up to, even if they’re on the other side of the planet. There are a lot of people who also use social media as a business, such as social media influencers. They make money by sharing content with their followers. Because of this, Mashable- a worldwide entertainment and multi-platform media business- decided that it would be a good idea to create a day to honour social media. Thus, Social Media Day has been taking place since the 30th of June, 2010.

Before COVID-19, statements and massive social movements took centre stage on social platforms. Social media was filled with selfies and life updates. Social media platforms are meant to connect people and helped the world remain connected, largely increasing usage during the pandemic. Since many people are asked to remain home, they have turned to social media to maintain their relationships and to access entertainment to pass the time.
